Building Homes, Building Lives.

Ionia Area HFH is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Owning a home is the American Dream. But for most low-income families, it is only a dream. Ionia Area Habitat for Humanity makes home ownership an attainable goal for families that live in inadequate housing, but the home is not a gift. They build the houses with Habitat.
Their gift is Hope
.

Ionia Area Habitat for Humanity seeks to build lives as well as hopes. Through the houses we build, hope is restored and lives are changed as the cycle of need is broken. Habitat homes are built with a combination of tax-deductible donations, hundreds of hours of "sweat equity" labor on the part of the homeowners, as well as volunteer and skilled labor. The home owner makes house payments (interest free) and pays taxes and insurance on their home. Their "sweat equity" is part of their down payment, along with a cash payment of 1% of the assessed value of their completed home. A support team is provided to work with them from selection until the last payment is made. By working together, homeowners, volunteers and donors become partners in the work of building houses, while building new relationships as well.
